I have never personally met Barbara Negretti but I started to follow her work a few years ago reading on Gardenia about an award she received at Orticola for one of her installations. She designs and restores gardens with elegant and essential taste, she combines technique and modernity to enhance uncommon plants also helping to promote a ‘green culture’. A watercolor of Daucus carota  allowed us to approach one another and gave me the chance to ask her, with the usual curiosity, to tell what books and authors contributed to her formation as Garden Designers.

“I should mention many books on design, on color, about the use of plants, books by famous contemporary and past designers, their works and their thoughts. I’ll choose two that do not teach how to refine a job, but instill an awareness of the importance and beauty of the plants and inspire the mind sounding out like the garden informs a number of arts which incorporates in itself. And another one written by  a great landscape designer of the past always very up to date.”

  • The man who was planting trees
  • a simple story but touching for me: how humility, strength and love of a man for the trees can change the landscape in the future and therefore the life of many people. Hope is in the relationship with nature.
