Queen Anne’s Lace

The lawn in late summer is dotted with pristine inflorescences of Daucus carota, the beautiful wild carrot abounds in the sunniest areas of my woodland garden.

The British call it Queen Anne’s Lace, translated in Italian in a little less romantic form “il merletto della Regina Anna”. I tell you its story in this post.

Here, on the other hand there is much confusion and often the wild carrot is called burnet, pretty name but belonging to another strongly aromatic umbelliferous, Pimpinella anisum, the common anise as a matter of fact. Also Sanguisorba minor is known by the name of burnet, but that’s another story!

This morning I picked up a beautiful bouquet of Daucus carota to decorate the house, an old zinc watering can will be its pot.
